Fanuc high-speed motion control with closed-loop load control ensures consistent force, delivering uniform quality stir weld.

Cooling fixture base plates and cooling tool holders ensure fast, efficient, and high-quality stir welds with a tooled-up solution.

FSW Busbars Manufacturing: Revolutionizing Power Distribution

Busbars are critical components in electrical power distribution systems, used to conduct electricity within switchboards, distribution boards, substations, and other equipment. Typically made from highly conductive materials like aluminum or copper, busbars are essential for delivering high current efficiently and safely.

Traditional welding methods for busbars—such as arc welding or resistance welding—often introduce defects, high thermal stress, and distortion. Friction Stir Welding (FSW) offers a solid-state welding solution that eliminates many of these issues, making it the preferred technology for modern busbar manufacturing.

  • No Melting – No Defects FSW is a solid-state process, meaning the material does not melt. This results in strong, defect-free joints with no cracks, voids, or porosity.
  • Low Heat Input: Reduces the risk of warping and maintains the electrical and mechanical integrity of the base materials.
  • Excellent Conductivity: The metallurgical bonding ensures low electrical resistance, which is crucial for current-carrying applications.
  • Joint Strength and Durability: Produces high-strength welds with excellent fatigue and corrosion resistance, ideal for high-load busbars.
  • Eco-Friendly Process: No fumes, no filler materials, and minimal post-processing, making it environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
